Professor B. A. Chopade is first generation learner. He is first Graduate, first Doctorate, Professor and Scientist in his village. He studied in Govt. Boarding Schools and completed his education on merit and fellowships.
He came from a small village near Karad in Satara district in western Maharashtra. He is a son of a farmer and reached to the level of Professor of Microbiology and Director of Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, University of Pune.
He has established himself as an academician. He is an outstanding teacher and excellent mentor and has mentored 19 Ph. D. students in Microbiology and Biotechnology.
Although Professor Chopade studied abroad at very young age, (26-29 years) after completion of his studies, he returned to India, in spite of number of opportunities of permanent citizenship. This clearly indicates his patriotic nature and his tremendous commitments for working for India and its University of Pune. This is unique example of dedication for nation and his commitment for University academics.
After coming from abroad, he had large number of offers from industries as well as from national institutes in India. However, because of his affection and dedication to University academics, he preferred working at the University of Pune. This indicates his tremendous devotion to the University academics.
Although Professor Chopade was selected by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) in 1981 as a Head, Department of Microbiology of Rajaram College Kolhapur. However, instead of joining the MPSC service, he joined at the University of Pune in 1982 as he wanted to develop his career in research and University academics at the University of Pune. This fact demonstrates his ability to take the right decisions at right time and indicates the tremendous maturity in his decision-making capabilities.
His Skills of administration are excellent. He has made lot of innovations in administration and also at the institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology.
He is a pioneer of Industry -Academia Interaction at UoP and entrepreneurship in Biotechnology at Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, University of Pune.
He has motivated and inspired hundreds of students to take up microbiology, biotechnology science and technology as a career. In the true sense, he has immensely contributed in developing human resources in modern microbiology and biotechnology in India.
Professor Chopade always believes in dreaming big and striving hard to make it a reality. One of his dreams is making path breaking contribution in University research and education system in India.
He has courage to dream and even greater courage to acknowledge those dreams and try to accomplish them. Profrssor Chopade has developed number of management skills in administrations at IBB, University of Pune.
Professor Chopade firmly believes that Universities are thought leaders of nation; future of any nation depends upon their Universities.
Professor Chopade has dedicated his life and career for academics and research and has contributed significantly to science. Integrity and devotion to academics are his greatest virtues.
